Risks Related to Updating

Updating packages to fix vulnerabilities has the same risks as updating packages in general. It is possible that a new version will have new bugs or be incompatible with other software you have installed, or be backwards incompatible with itself. Use your own experience, search system administration blogs, and/or consult server management professionals to evaluate the risk and decide whether to update or not. It is also wise to maintain a current backup of your system in case things go badly.
